Reading Orrin’s post reminded me of the surprising trouble I once had grading a logic exam made up mostly of Venn diagrams. Some student would shade too much, some would shade too little, some would leave an “x” out all together, some would put it in but in the wrong place, etc. Trying to figure out just how wrong each of these wrong answers were, and applying this consistently, was surprisingly difficult. I’m sure it was much easier than a complex essay exam.
