Early Voting Wait Times Longer than Ever

At Coral Gables library this morning, the line went 3/4 of the way around the very long block. I bet it’s longer now.

UPDATE: the 2:08 results below the fold. Note that now the longest wait time is ‘only’ five and a half hours … but the shortest wait time is up to three hours, and there’s precious little of that.

Romney at 917 Campaign Falsehoods…and Counting

Steve Benen, Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XLI:

In a way, I blame my friend Greg Sargent. In the first week in January, he noted, almost in passing, that Mitt Romney seemed to be making a lot of false claims, and someone “really should document them all.” That struck me as a good idea, so I decided to tackle this on my own.

After all, I thought at the time, how hard could this be? Once a week, I’d let readers know about Romney’s whoppers, which I assumed would total about a half-dozen a week, and maybe after the election, I’d do a top 20 list of my favorites. The project would be a nice little Friday-afternoon feature.

Little did I know at the time that Romney would become an ambitious prevaricator, whose rhetoric would come to define post-truth politics. Nearly 11 months after Greg Sargent’s harmless suggestion, I’ve published 40 installments in this series, which, before today, featured 884 falsehoods. (If you include today’s edition, the new total is 917 falsehoods for the year.)

I wish that were a typo. It’s not.

Tech Billionaire(s) To Offer Big Reward for Proof of Voting Machine Rigging?

David Brin has launched a personal appeal to anyone involved in rigging voting machines inviting them to spill the beans. And he claims to know of people who will pay big bucks for solid proof:

If you spill the beans convincingly on a nasty cabal that is stealing elections — or anything similar — you will be paid at least as much as the Blofelds are paying you to help them cheat. And Blofeld can’t offer you the book deal, talk shows and starlets.

In fact, I am letting a cat out of the bag. (I have permission to say this much.) If we see a repeat of 2000, with weird electoral veers in suspicious precincts that stink to high heaven, those billionaires will go public with their offer! Millions in exchange for proof that is iron-clad and solid.

Now look at your co-henchmen in the conspiracy. Consider that they have already recorded you. They have such proof, stocked and hidden away. While you twiddled your thumbs. They are positioned to take advantage of such offers, while you are not. And only the first one to blab will get the bonanza.

I’d get busy, if I were you.

Details on Romney Visit

Republican presidential nominee Governor Mitt Romney will visit the University of Miami?s Coral Gables campus on Wednesday, October 31 at 2 p.m. for a ‘Victory Rally’ in the BankUnited Center.

Senator Marco Rubio, Governor Jeb Bush, Congressman Connie Mack, and the Republican Team also will appear with Governor Romney.

The rally is free, but a ticket is required for entry. To RSVP and get your ticket, please visit www.mittromney.com/FL.

Doors to the BankUnited Center will open at 12 p.m. All attendees must go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. Since it will take time to clear security, please plan on arriving early. Late arrivals will not be guaranteed entry.

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to wear orange and green to the event to show their ‘Cane spirit. No large bags, purses exceeding 8.5″x 11″, backpacks, sharp objects, umbrellas, food or drinks, video cameras, or signs/banners will be allowed into the building. Cameras and cell phones are permitted.

Parking Due to the high volume of vehicular traffic and parking surrounding the BankUnited Center, employees and students are advised to walk to the venue from other points on campus. The Department of Parking and Transportation Services will provide additional information on street and lot closures.

Daniel Shaviro (NYU) offers up The moral and political philosophy of Mitt Romney, each of which puts a Romneyian spin on a well-established tradition. He’s on to something. I especially liked this one:

(5) The original position: Where you stand after you have received government subsidies (so long as they aren’t from entitlements or poverty programs), but before you have paid any federal income taxes
